If you read the article, they *stole* (recruited) these folks from all the
top shops (AT&T/Lucent, SCO, others) - these guys were working on porting
HP-UX applications to IA-64 technology...

Maybe, if they were working on porting HP-UX to Alpha their careers would be
different...
