Well I don't know about Solaris 8, but Solaris 7, 6, and 2.5.1 can coexist
well with other OS's provided you have a certain HD geometry.  On some
older machines, Linux and WinXXX systems take the LBA BIOS settings, where
Solaris just ignores that and takes the geometry from the disk (I had a
SCSI system at the time).  Therefore you install Solaris and another
system on the same disk, and the partition boundaries overlap hosing one
or the other system.  I couldn't figure out how to fix that properly, but
I am guessing that this situation has improved somewhat.

Solaris 2.5.1 had a nasty habit of causing a kernel panic with vold and my
original Sony 2X CD-ROM way back when... and you had to shut off the
machine before the core dump or it crapped all over the disk.
