Slashdot had a few write-ups on that unit, that would be a good place to start...

The hacks were more like "hold down these three buttons on power up" IIRC.

And where might one find such mods?  I have quite a few Hong-Kong DVDs
and an Apex.  No, I'm not a pirate, but some movies are damn hard to
find in the US.
