The reason is because the U5/U10 boards don't support UDMA ATA  
versions. ATA100 is required to access drives up to 400GB, or ATA133  
is able to access larger drives but I don't know what the upper limit  
on it is.

You'd be much better throwing a PCI SCSI card in and using that with  
some 68-pin drives, my Ultra 5 bogs down heavily on disc accesses  
because of the constant CPU polling from the IDE controller.
