My gut response is to use enscript to handle the formatting problem
to separate it from the distribution problem and make ongoing
maintenance easier.

As printers wear out and get replaced with new models, the formatting
issue should be transparent.

It also means that should next month someone decide they want to print
in 2 column landscape with 6 point font, the problem is already solved.
