[SunHELP] how to auto-reconfigure the device special files

Thu Mar 28 05:23:19 CST 2002

Imagine this situation:

You have restored a system which was originally using target 0 SCSI disk as
the boot device.
The disks you are using at the moment to restore the system are target 1 and
2. After restoration
the only device files you have are addressing target 0 on the newly restored
system and no special
device file exists for target 1 and 2.

Because of this problem, whenever you want to reboot the server, it fails to
find the special files of
newly created boot device (target 1 or 2). 'boot -r' also doesn't help.

To resolve this problem I had to do a messy thing and boot the server from a
bootable device and
then 'mknod' the required device files.

Have you any other idea or is there any better/quicker way to do this?

Please do not tell me to screw off the server and change the target ids
manually! It is more messy
than what I did!!
