[SunHELP] /etc/cron.d/logchecker fails

I 've a problem with the logchecker script on soloaris8. It fails with
$>sh -x /etc/cron.d/logchecker
...
FILESIZE=
+ [ -ge 924 ] 
/etc/cron.d/logchecker: test: argument expected

I also don't see the /var/cron/log file with ls -al, on an older solaris7 
machine there are no problems.
"$>du -a /var/cron/log" gives no result, but "$>more /var/cron/log" 
showes the filecontent
