[SunHELP] Gig Enet interface problems

Thu Aug 8 14:29:43 CDT 2002

I have 3 Sun machines (E4500's) attached to a Cisco Catalyst 6509 via fiber
gigabit ethernet. 2 are Oracle database machines and one is a tape backup
machine and all three move lots of traffic. I also have 2 netapps attached
the same way. The Sun machines are showing Ierrs (about 10K/day)on their
interfaces. For reference purposes I might add that the Netapps aren't
having any problem. None of the switch interfaces are showing any errors.

My questions are these:

What are Ierrs? Would this be an umbrella designation for
runt/giant/CRC/dribble/etc. (framing problems)? Or does it refer to
something else?

Some of the interfaces are set up with ndd scripts. Is this the best way to
set them up? What would the options be for gigabit?

What are the default settings for things like flow control and negotiation?

What more clues do I need?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
