Summary:

When installing Solaris 2.6 on an E250, you must use the 5/98 release or
better. We had several copies of 3/98 laying around and though the
software installs and runs, know you have installed the 3/98 version if
you select auto-reboot during install and auto-reboot doesn't work. it
cannot be patched, 3/98 release does not support E250 Hardware.

There is very little documentation on the Internet on this issue, and
the fact that the OS seems to work fine really throws you off course.
When you install the Recommended patch cluster after the reboot the box
dies and gives you a fast MMU error.

Subject: [SunHELP] Fast MMU miss on a e250

I have run into a real hum dinger of a problem.

I am getting Fast MMU miss on reboot after applying the 2.6_Recommended
patch cluster.

Ecache is set to 2048 and I have tried this on 2 seperate machines with
the same fimware revision 3.14 , then after reading a few posts that
looked similar I upgraded firmware to 3.22, and tried again. Same
result, I did the patch cluster with the key set to diag so in case
there were any patches to PROM they would be able to write.

Solaris 7 and 8 run on both servers just fine. If I could just install 7
or 8 I would but the enviroment for this particular dev box has to be a
2.6 install with the patch cluster.

OS option is Entire Distribution
Hardware E250 , 256 ram, 396 cpu, 9 gig drive.
