[SunHELP] lost+found ?

A few days back I had to shut down my Sun E450 in a unclean manner (its running Solaris 8).
When I booted the system I was asked to run a fsck on the root file system (it was not mounted logging)
I did that - and it prompted me a number of times with messages like
"link count should be 2 but is 0. repair ?" (I am not sure about the exact messages since it happenned more than a week ago)
Since then I have mounted my root file system as logging.

Now I discover a lot of directories in /lost+found belonging to a number of users (root etc) and having names like :
#0000168
#0005876
Can I safely delete these files/directories ?

I am not a sys-admin - only a DBA - hence want to be sure of what I am doing.
Thanks and Regards,
~aslam
