Hello Jeff,

some time ago I had the same problem ... rlogin or telnet works fine with
the  password. I don't know exactly, whow I solved the problem ... but I'm
shure ... after installing the recommended Patch-Cluster for Sol 7 or 8 at
this time everything was ok.
