Hi Raju

You just need to label those disks before you use them.Since these disks are
new ones they have a default label in them.So just label the disks using the
format command and try it out.

Hi all,

Hw: Sun E450
OS: "SunOS Release 5.7 Version Generic_106541-14 64-bit [UNIX(R) System V

We have installed a new single ended SCSI Controll Host Adapter. After
connecting 2 HDD's ( 2 * 9GB and 16 * 18GB ) this when we ran probe-scsi-all
it is OK. I could successfully load OS on one 9GB and another GB as mirror
of that. I connected the remaining 18HDDs (2*9GB + 16 * 18GB), I could
successfully probe-scsi-all. However, the booting failed with the following
error:

Please advice.

Hi,
I need to change a server's (solaris8) ip address and netmask. Is there
a file that holds this info? I want to make the changes without the
usual method of running sysunconfig which I think goes too far when all
I need to change is the network info. Thanks.

It will work untill next reboot. You might want to put ifconfig statement in
one of your rc* scripts to run on every boot.

Files configuration:
IN  /etc ::::
1. nodename
2. hostname.<interface>
e.a. hostname.hme0 or hostname.le0
3. hosts ( loghost entry )
4. netmasks

If all you really want to change is the IP and NETMASK the these two
files may do it:

/etc/hosts
/etc/netmasks

These files are really links.

Edit /etc/inet/hosts (change the ip address in there). Edit
/etc/netmasks if appropriate. Thats it.
/etc/hostname.device should contain the hostname
/etc/inet/hosts should have an ip->hostname mapping

Yes, do it the right way by using sys-unconfig. Whether you think it "goes
too far" or not isn't really relevant.

Subject: [SunHELP] DiskSuite and Disk Crash Data
Reply-To: sunhelp at sunhelp.org

Hi Listers,

I have installed DiskSuite on two of our E3000 servers that run Oracle.
Every filesystem on these boxes is now mirrored by way of DiskSuite. So, if
I should have a disk crash, I should be able to use the various meta
commands to fix things on the fly. I want to make sure, though, that I am
saving the correct data/files in the event of a disk failure. Here is a
list of what I have come up with that should be saved:

df -k output
metadb -i output
metastat -p output
metastat -t output
format/partition output for each disk
prtvtoc output for each disk
vfstab

Is there anything else that any of y'all would recommend I save away?

Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions/comments!

I have problem install Solaris 8 on SUN Enterprise

This happened exactly the same, even after
successfully install Solaris 7 on the same box, and
tried to upgrade it to Solaris 8.

Anyone seen this before ?

Shain,

Modify the /etc/hosts file to change the IP address of the system. As for
the netmask, you would need to modify the /etc/netmasks file (man netmasks
for additional information).

Cheers,

Warren

Subject: [SunHELP] How to allow Samba-2.0.7 on Solaris open more than 1014
files
Reply-To: sunhelp at sunhelp.org

Hi all,

I heard that there is a patch which can allow Samba-2.0.7 on Solaris open
more than 1014 files. But I don't know how to do it in detail. Anyone can
point me on this ?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards.

No, there isnt a libgen available for 2.6 or 7.

Sun explicitely states that upward compatability is maintained between
Solaris revs (ie, running a binary that was compiled on 2.5 will run on
8), but Sun makes mo guarantee that a binary compiled on 8 will run on any
older rev of Solaris. The problem you are running into is why.

Compile your java app on your 2.6 machine, and it should run fine on 7 and
8.

Put the following in /etc/system and reboot:

* Increase system file descriptor limits
set rlim_fd_cur = 256
set rlim_fd_max = 4096

This sets the file descriptor soft limit to 256 (which is the OS default
anyway) and the hard limit to 4094 (up from the default of 1024).

Looks adequate.

It's also good to keep a copy of /etc/system and the
contents of /etc/opt/SUNWmd/ (or /etc/lvm if youre running
SDS-4.2.1/Solaris 8).
