don't know anything about Tivoli other than i have to log onto the video 
console of the server it runs on and reboot it once a week or it gets all
twisted up and stops working.  so far i'm not impressed by Tivoli.

i don't see why you shouldn't use ufsdump to backup your system on a regular
basis, so all you should need to do is boot off the CD, drop to a prompt,
run format to make sure your partition table is kosher and use ufsrestore to
get your machine back.

don't worrry about /dev and /devices, they are generated by the OS when you
do a 'boot -r' so if /dev gets screwed up but everything else is ok, reboot
the system with the -r flag and you should be fine.
