[SunHELP] OpenSSH 2.9p2, Solaris 2.7 (core install) = puke

Afternoon Fellow UNIX users,

I am trying to install OpenSSH 2.9p2 under Solaris 2.7 (core install
only) (Sparc). I have added the gcc, make, and zlib packages from
Sunfreeware for 2.7. OpenSSL-0.9.6a went in without a hitch (had to grab
a copy of the ranlib file).

I really would like to avoid installing the whole damn developers
package if possible and hope someone might have come up with a solution.

below is a copy of the output from running configure...

./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.

Cheers and here's to hoping someone has a fix/hack for this.
Scott
