[SunHELP] Anyone using the Sun hardware raid on E450?

Peter,

We have 2 src/p controller cards in our e450's (we have 2 e450's). Each
card has eight 9gig drives running raid 0+1. Giving us 72 gigs usable
space on each e450. We have been running the setup since September i
believe.

We haven't had any problems with the cards. We haven't had one drive
break. Now that I've said that, one drive will break tomorrow ;-)

Each card comes with a backplane for 8 drives which are split on 2
channels/chains. The external channel/chain we don't use.

The backplanes themselves looked the same as the basic 8 drive scsi
backplanes that come with the e450's but they had a different number. Our
Sun service tech installed the cards without installing the 8 drive
backplanes that came with the kit. It worked fine. But the service tech
installed the backplanes anyway so that the part #'s would match up.

That's my 2 Canadian cents.

Karl

I assume you mean the SRC/P, which is an OEM DPT card. Provided you get
the latest drivers it seems to be solid and fast. It does seem like there
would be termination issues with cascading the internal backplanes to run
more than 12 disks internally (I still have mine in my U30, haven't moved
it to the E450 yet). I'd love more info but people with practical
experience with this card seem to be few and far between.

I run 24 disks, 8 per chain. It would be ideal for me to use 16 internal
bays on an E450 for 2 chains and run the third chain externally.
