Hi Anna

Not sure if you can get the correct firmware. Can you confirm if the drive
has a Sun part number. This will be a 370-XXXX eg 370-3319 (24xCDROM
Goldstar-8240B).

Where so I go to get the correct firmware? And how do I know what the
correct one is?

Thanks a lot

Anna

Hi

Even though it is atapi the standard Ultra 10/5 have atapi as standard. The
only thing I can think is, as with the SCSI CDROMs, you need to have one
with the correct firmware to interpret how the boot rom is trying to map the
CDROM. I have no experience trying non-Sun parts with ATAPI interfaces so
cannot comment, but suggest you try with Sun atapi drive. As far as reading
CD's from a running system this is completely different and will work with
any SCSI or ATAPI drive as it is using the standard iso/hsfs filesystem
drivers which all (most?) CDROMs work with.

You see a similar problem with SCSI CDROMs not booting which do not have the
correct firmware.

I tried all of that. The CD works fine on other systems, like E250.

The CDrom is not original to the system. It is an older machine and has
atapi CDRom not a scsi one.

Hi

You should be able to boot a Solaris 8 CDROM from the boot cdrom no problem.
Only thing I can think is maybe an odd version of Sol 8. Can you actually
boot it on another Sparc system or just look at it? Also is this CDROM the
original with the system?

Also in the Sol 8 set there are 2 bootable disks, have you tried both of
them?

Hello,

I have an Ultra 10 box. Wanted to install Solaris 8 on it.
The usual boot cdrom did not work. It says, can't read the label on the
disk.
I checked the CD, it works fine on other machines.

I think that it might be happening because it is not a scsi cdrom. But I
can browse the CD once I am logged in, so the system sees it.

I tried to boot c0t2d0 this is what df -k showed. Did not work.

Please help
