[SunHELP] Ultra5/10 hardware question

Hi

try

dd if=<some large file> of=/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0

This should overwrite the label info (works on SCSI disks, never tried on
IDE)

Alternatively initialise the disk on a PC and then move back to Sun.

Peter

I tried to install Solaris 2.6 on the disk first but it didnot recognize the
correct size so I installed Solaris8 but no luck with Solaris8 also??? How
can I distroy and re-label the disk? Any help will appreciated.
Thanks,
Shahzad

Did you previously label the disk with an older version? If so you need
to destroy the label before you can re-label the disk on a newer version
of Solaris so that it's the correct size.

You originally asked about Solaris 2.6 so I suspect you may have labeled
the disk there which limited it to 8GB. A valid label, even if it's
wrong and doesn't describe the entire disk, will be honored by newer
versions of the OS. That's why it needs to be destroyed and a new label
written.
