Yeah I had the same results on my Solaris 8 U60 but it works fine on all my other E220s running Solaris 7.  You looked on Sunsolve?

ifconfig iprb0:1 203.14.120.24 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
fconfig: SIOCGLIFNETMASK: iprb0:1: no such interface

running Solaris 8 x86

ifconfig hme0:1 "ip address"
ifconfig hme0:1 up

Also don't forget to add a /etc/hostname.hme0:1 file for boot up.
