They took out the C compiler way back when they went from SunOS to Solaris, 
my guess is the almighty dollar was the incentive. If you want a good free C 
compiler then I suggest going to http://solarisfreeware.com and downloading 
GCC. You will probably need to point your CC env variable to GCC after it's 
installed.

I have installed Solaris 7 in E450 server. In order to load other utilities
I need c compiler. When I say cc at the command prompt, the system says,
/usr/ucb/cc: Language optional software package not installed.
I wonder how come solaris doesn't come with c compiler by default.
Is there any other third party compiler available which will server my
purpose?
