Eureka! We moved from a Classic to a Sparc 5. Followed David's
suggestions and it now works. Thanks, Dave.

Subject: Missing device files

Alan,
This sound like the disk types have changed. ie: restiored from a
system that has FAST internal drives to a system that has FAST/WIDE
internal drives or vice/versa. I believe that you can get around this
problem by removing/renaming /etc/path_to_inst and
/etc/path_to_inst.old. Then reboot your new system using the command
boot -ras. I believe this will rebuild the devices correctly and allow
the machine to boot. Hope this helps

Dave
