First it would seem to imply that you are using 'ls -aF', or have 'ls -aF' 
aliased to ls. If you look at the man for ls and go down to the -F option 
you will see that an asterik (*) means that the file is executable.

What does a trailing * in the filename imply?
eg: .netrc* is a filename. The '.' implies that it is hidden, what does the
'*' imply?
