Hi all,

We want to discuss some issues regarding backup & restore on different H/W
architecture. In our scenario we have E3000 & E250 machine, Solaris
2.5.1,FS=ufs, for backup we r using Sun DLT 4000 external tape. On E3000
oracle 7.2 and SEVM is installed. our recquired goal is to take a backup
from E3000 using 'tar/ufsdump' utilities and restore on E250 machine. When
we take a backup while using tar/ufsdump on E3000/E250 and restore on the
same machine, resotre is done fine.

The problem is faced when We take
# tar -cvfp /dev/rmt/0 /dir on E3000 and try to restore on E250 using
same
Sun DLT 4000 # tar -xvfp /dev/rmt/0 dir......the system crashes. Console
shows
the following messages.

  panic[cpu0]/thread=0x30023ec0: recursive mutex_enter. mutex
                                                504350b8 caller 50228424
                syncing file systems...
66584 static and sysmap kernel pages
                  540 dynamic kernel data pages
                 1047 kernel-pageable pages
                    0 segkmap kernel pages
                    0 segvn kernel pages
                    0 current user process pages
                68171 total pages (68171 chunks)
                dumping to vp f2bb27b4, offset

No core is shown in the filesystems. We can't try to restore the same tar
archive on other machine. We can try to restore the
Ultra 1 machine backup on E250 if DLT will be available.

Pls suggest us on what direction we should go to resolve this problem at
earliest.
Rgds/Rehan
