Interesting, I tried doing a regular install of Solaris 9 on my ultrabook
and it panics loading the kernel. I have not tried performing an upgrade
from 8.

Hello All !

Tadpole said to me the ftp site should be up by the end of last week but
it still seems to be
off line. I wonder if someone on the list have already downloaded the
patches for Solaris 8 and the
RDI specific software utilities ? Would you be willing to share them
with me so that I can get going
with my installation.

BTW are anybody running Solaris 9 with the Ultrabook I ? I have it
instlled on a 6G drive but there was
2 problems:

1) Formating the drive wouldnt work. I had to install Solaris 8 and then
make an upgrade.

2) Trying to configure the framebuffer with anything but default (using
m64config) doesnt work,
it results in multiple pictures, ie refresh rate trouble, or total
mess up of the screen.
What resolutions and color depths are really supported on the
Ultrabook I ? (U20-14-2x-128P model)

Tadpole said that you need to upgrade the firmware (scary stuff) to at
least 3.1.7 (mine is 3.1.5)
to run Solaris 8. Solaris 9 is not supported yet, but they didnt really
provide any reason that it should not,
or should work.

Most applications seems to work in Solaris 9 though including KDE. The
only one that crashed so far was the Admintool (of all things..).

What would happen if one tried to install the Tadpole utilities and
patches on Solaris 9. Would it blow up ?

Thanks,
Peter
