David,

Upgrade to a 2.3 or 2.4 kernel, it uses a different idle loop and will run MUCH
cooler. My 3GX has been up for 50 days on RedHat 6.1 with a 2.4 kernel and is
only slightly warm. With the lcd on all of the time.
