Re: getting data off 50 yo tapes.  I have regular consumer grade (analog
of course) 7" RTR audio tapes I recorded in the late 50s that still play.
 No scraping the binder off, but they do break easily and have apparently
stretched a bit since they now play ~15% slow.  Audacity takes care of
that just fine after digitizing them.  1970s audio cassettes are another
matter.Bill Martin
