The security situation with consumer routers/modems is atrocious, 
bordering on what should be criminal liability for the companies 
producing them.  Thoughtlessly mashing a bunch of random open source 
programs and quick & dirty CGI admin scripts into an embedded Linux 
image is unacceptable for devices that will be sold as network gateways 
in the millions of units.

A farce soon to be repeated, only much worse, with the "Internet of Things".
