[rescue] Display devices

Nec Multisync monitors work well with Sparcstations... I have a 19in that
works well. And I have tested the 21in version too which are about 60-100
bucks on ebay. The model you probably want is 2190uxp. You'll only get those
refurbished though. You'll also need a Sun 13w3 adaptor not an SGI one.

Hi Peter

If you draw up blanks on the list (and sorry I don't have any spare) you
can still find SUN MBUS CPU's on ebay for modest amounts.

FYI if you are looking for SM71's to do SMP then a pair of Ross
HyperSPARC dual/single modules could do the trick.

cheers

Richard

Hi Richard

Thanks for the reply, sadly I need the SM71, nothing else and all the MBus
modules on Ebay are not SM71, mainly lower speed. I have plenty of the
HyperSparcs in stock, just no good for this job...

All the best

Peter

Hi Peter

Out of curiosity what is the application/system/CPU feature that makes
it so specific?

What are you trying to accomplish that has such very strict requirements?

They appear to be not very long-lived. I have four SM71s here (at
least), all with failed cache memory, although the SS20 they ran in did
not have internal disks. I guess they were built for an AC server
room...

Does anyone know how to map the OF self-test error information for the
SM 71 to the physical cache RAM chips?

Hi Richard/Andrew

Purely customer requirements, they have specified the SM71. I guess it is to
replace like for like as a spare unit. I know there were issues with the
HyperSparc with earlier version of Solaris etc and at this stage they would
not be interested in patching or it may be that the software is certified and
may not even be able to be changed. However that is the way it is....

So if anyone has any spare, I would still be interested in knowing.

Thanks

Peter

I just realized that I missed this when it came through, originally.

We were using LCDs from Envision with Sun workstations -- Ultra2s,
Ultra60s, and Blade2ks. The models we used were EN9410E and H190L. Both
were VGA-only, but they worked out of the box with a 13W3->VGA adapter.

New? It's nigh impossible. I won't go so far as to say that nobody makes
them anymore, but very few of my standard go-to "parts-shopping" sites
list any, except for used/refurb units.

I regularly see CRT monitors in the thrift stores in the area. I'd also
suggest checking out any small, non-chain, mom&pop computer stores, and
if there's an electronics recycler in the area, give them a call. Also,
the local Craigslist site generally has quite a few people hoping that
someone will take their old CRTs and maybe get more use out of them
instead of having to recycle them.
