Heh. You had to do that even if you had actual MMJ cables half the time. Since the clip was offset, it liked to cause the connector to twist in the socket, and it makes bad contact. My MicroVax has a real MMJ connector plugged into the console port, and it's always coming loose - ot at least it was, until I shimmed it up with tape...
