[rescue] VAXstation 3100

Hi,
So last weekend was my last trip to the MIT Swapfest for the forseeable 
future, and while I didn't grab the small rackmount PC server I was 
looking for, I did score a VAXstation 3100.  I haven't had much time to 
look into it much, but I did pull the cover off and it does have disks 
at least.  My issue is, I have no mmj cable/adapter to get a serial 
console up on it.  Some searching finds mainly MMJ-DB9 adapters, and a 
few (somewhat pricy) MMJ patch cables.  I also found some who say that 
you can take a normal phone cable with rj11 ends and file off the clip 
to get it to fit into the jack.  What have peoples' experiences been 
with this.  Should I do the telephone cable trick, or shell out the $$ 
for a real mmj cable? Does anyone have MMJ patch cables or MMJ-DB9 
adapters they wouldn't mind parting with?
The machine does power up, and the LEDs do a lot of stuff, but I really 
can't start messing with the system until I get a serial console...Any 
help apreciated.
