I don't believe they care.

The credit card companies, and the banks to a lesser extent, make  
money when stupid things happen.

Inaccurate information, grossly unchecked credit ratios, and the  
steady erosion of consumer protection is a gold mine for them.

At last for now.

It can't be sustained, but I suppose no one is thinking far enough  
ahead any more to worry about that.
