Both myself and my sister-in-law have had nothing but trouble with
LaCie equipment. Every. Single. Drive. ( including the SCSI ones ) has
been problematic. She has finally given up after her portable drive &
external burner died within a few months of each other.

I've had better luck getting bare drives online or at
Fry's/Microcenter and a generic USB/1394 enclosure.

Just my $0.02.
