[rescue] DVD±R DL discs in Sun / Toshiba DVD-ROM drives?

Hi all:

Anyone have any firsthand experience with using custom DVD1R dual
layer (8.5gb) discs in the Sun-original SCSI DVD-ROM drives (SD-M1401,
SD-M1711)? Looking to work some self-contained bootable Jumpstart
magic involving a larger flash archive, but it would suck to do all of
the configuration (not to mention buy the expensive media) for it to
all come undone due to a media incompatibility.

The manuals I've found on Toshiba's website for both models suggest
that commercial, "silver-pressed" single-sided DL discs (DVD-9) will
work, but no mention is made of recordable DL media; also, having
never before ventured into burning DVDs intended for use on Suns, I
don't know whether DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL is preferable (my burner can
handle either)... any insight would be appreciated.

Regards,

-A
