Believe it or not, the fastest 5.3-capable machine you'll find in the
$1000 range nowadays is a quad-processor 7044-270. It'll take a small
amount of looking though.

But don't knock the 43P-150. 375MHz PowerPC 604e isn't all that slow.

The next level up is the p615 6E3/6C3, which has a dual-core POWER4 at
1.2GHz or a dual-core POWER4+ at 1.45GHz. It can go dual-processor,
too, but it costs a good bit more than $1000. If you look around for a
long time, you might just be able to find one for under $2500.

The next level up from *that* is the 6E4/6C4, which is quad-processor
and costs a good bit more than that. But that's a machine that's faster
than a low-end POWER5.

Peace... Sridhar
