It was never intended to be like FC - it's a consumer/entry-level server
spec.  The enterprise-grade SATA equivalent - SAS (serial attached scsi)
- is much more like FC and is downwards compatible with SATA drives: you
can plug SATA drives into SAS backplanes and controllers but you loose
all the advantages of SAS, like dual ports for redundant controllers.
