or if you like LANG just fine, set LC_COLLATE to C.

btw, LANG on my system [s8] is en_us.ISO8859-1.  openwin wouldn't
start when it was set to 8859-15 and i haven't bothered to find out
why.  but either way i don't think it can be set to just en_us.
