?? Never had a minute's problem with 3Com, in anything with a PCI or
ISA/EISA bus. The 3Com 3c905btx that I have several of in various
PCI-capable machines have all worked flawlessly. (I think the G4 has one in
it across the room, and I know this steenkeeng Hell optiplex thing I'm
forced to use at the U. has one, I put it there and then disabled the
on-board ethernet controller.) I've gone to that card for all the 10/100
ethernet jobs i have, and even recommend it to students when they show up
with some off-brand two-dollar crap card that errors more than it passes
traffic.

What sort of errors are you getting, exactly? And which model 3Com are you
using? They are like everyone else, they make some good, some better, some
bad. I did have some fun-n-games with older model ISA cards under Linux
several years back (connection would drop with a kernel panic, and shut the
whole shootin'-match down, not just the network), but the driver was
updated shortly after and the problems resolved with the driver fix.
