Why not just slam the DIMMs into the machine with a sledge hammer?
Sorry, I don't wane be offensive. But your sugestion is quite rude.

The key slots on the DIMMs are there to encode different DIMM types.
E.g. supply voltage, registered / buffered vs. unregistered, RAM type
(FPM / EDO, SDRAM, ...). There are JEDEC standards for the key slot
encodings. So it has a purpose if the DIMMs don't fit because the key
slots don't match. The purpose is to prevent loosage of the magic blue
smoke.

Sure. Some DIMMs and machines are robust against your type of abuse. But
if you play those tricks you have to be prepared for spectacular faults
and permanent damage to your hardware.

The DIMMs used in U5 /U10 are nothing special. I use DIMMs from
Motorola, Bull and IBM PowerPC machines in my U5 / U10. Some PeeCees
used this RAM too. They are regular 3.3 V registered ECC EDO DIMMs. IIRC
the U5 / U10 is a bit picky about 10 / 11 bit row addressing or somthing
like this. Sometimes the U5 / U10 recognizes only half the capacity of
the DIMMs.
