A Realtek chip requires more CPU than something that doesn't suck to
push the same amount of traffic.

Examples from the "doesn't suck" category are:

 * 3com 3c905 variants
 * Intel PRO/100 (aka fxp or e100, depending on OS)
 * 21x4x chips, aka the tulip
