Yep, you're right. I realize that in my reply it may have sounded like I
was comparing clock speeds, I was not. The question I had regarding the
450MHz CPU for the Ultra60 was simply because I was comparing figures
and wondered if that was as high as thh CPU would go. Looking at things
like SPECint, the Ultra60 with 2x450MHz is below the several 1GHz PC
offerings. Floating point seems to be better on the Sparc, as expected.

I figured this to be basically true, esp. for day-to-day use. However, I
feel, and I don't know this for sure, that for pure computation the
Intels will still win, at least when comparing the U60 to my PC. Thus, I
was asking if the U60 would actually be a comperable machine, or if
maybe I should look for a more powerful Sun machine. Perhaps you have
some other benchmarks that could fill me in more?

What part of anything I said seems to imply trolling? Oh, right, I'm
trolling if I want a machine to be of comperable speed to my Intel box
that I'm replacing it with.

BUT SUN HARDWARE IS SUPERIOR IT HAS BETTER BUSSES AND A CLEANER
ARCHITECTURE AND RUNS UNIX AND RARRRARRRARRRAARARAAAHAHAHHHH!

I know this, for god's sake, that's why I'm asking the question. I WANT
to get rid of my PC. I UNDERSTAND the advantages of running a decently
designed system. I DO NOT want my "upgraded" machine to be a "downgrade"
in performance. Is that so much to ask? I want to find a machine that is
pretty comperable to the one I am currently using.
