I get around requests like that in several ways.

1. I tell most people who don't know me that i don't know shit
about computers and that i work in the mail room. This fends of
most requests before they start.

2. If they are acquainted with me i tell them that i am only
knowledgeable about large UNIX type system and that i don't even
know how to turn a Windows machine on.

3. Last ditch effort, i tell them that i would be happy to
help and then i quote them a ridiculous fee, $200 - $250 per
hour. If they take it (not often but it has happened) then i do
the work. Usually they smile politely, say "thanks" and that
they will call and never do.

For those that question the high price, i tell them that i do not
price my services at market value but rather, i price them
based on how much i value my free time.

Mission accomplished.
