AFAIK most (if not all) of the SCSI disks I've used in the last five years have a 
write-protect jumper on the control board. I just assumed this was a standard 
feature.

I can also recall using SCSI RAID controllers with write-protect jumpers on 
them, though I haven't seen a lot of them.
