   Anecdotally, the failure mode for that seems to be the blowing
of a small fuse inside the PSU.  Which, if I'm not mistaken, is
pretty easy to fix.

   A pal of mine recently "did in" his E3k PSU in that manner, acquired
a new one to fix the machine, then set off to diagnose the problem with
the failled one and found the fuse.  I do not know if replacing the
fuse fixed the dead supply.
