I've been replacing the macintosh batteries with off the shelf CR2 batteries
which can be had cheaply from any camera store. The tadiran batteries are
shorter, but have a long "nose" which makes them the same length overall.

They are 3.6 volt lithium 1/2 AA size.

Hint. careful drop silver solder onto the battery and let it cool.
Make a loop of tinned wire and carefully heat the solder on the battery
stick the wire in and remove heat. YMMV.
