On high-dollar cards, there's a big difference between "XFree drivers
that get a 2D picture up on screen" and "properly tweaked custom
drivers for fast OpenGL". Heck, there's a difference on my GeForce 4MX
on my desk box between using XFree and using the nVidia drivers. The
nVidia drivers are at least 2x as fast.

All our stuff (GIS/exploration/etc) is heavy OpenGL.
