Off topic answer... install openbsd 3.4 instead. Great sparc support,
and PF is the best piece of firewall software ive used so far.

At one point I installed debian on my ss1000. It should be about the
same way. Either burn an iso and stick it in the cdrom and type boot
cdrom, but my internal cdrom was one that used caddies and I don't have
a cd caddy for it...
Instead I booted the installation over the network. I had rarpd running,
and tftp running through inetd. Here is a great howto on setting up a
diskless boot.

all I needed to get was the tftp image for the installation.
