Oh, okay.  So, you're basing "desktop worthiness" on a particular piece
of software.

Let's say I write a word processor that does several 64-bit integer
multiplies to rendering each character.  It would -suck balls- on x86,
but probaby not hamper Sparc V9, MIPS-IV, or PPC64 at all.  Would that
suddenly make PCs less useful for desktop work?

Hell, I could make it so it does vectorized FP operations just to do
sub-pixel rendering for better anti-aliasing!  Oh wow!  You can't write
letters to Grandma on anything less than a Cray!

OMG!  I can't run $macAudioApp on Windows!  PCs are thoroughly useless
for creating music!

Presentation Manager doesn't run on Macs!  How can you possibly run more
than one application at a time on there?!
