It might be.  

Whoever writes it would have to do a far better job than anything I have
seen so far.

I wish the Mozilla team had never starting doing the UI in XUL.  Just
as they got the rendering engine fast, they killed the benefit with a
cold-mollasses slow GUI engine.  That and out-of-control memory use.

Well... I also meant small like NeXT.  Of course, back in the day NeXT
was considered a performance pig.

I like MacOS X too, but it's pretty piggy too.  Lot's of its programs
are pretty huge too.  I also don't like how Apple abandoned some of the
NeXT UI and ideas, and how they violate their own UI guidelines.

I'd like to see MacOS sitting on top of a faster UNIX too, but hopefully
we'll soon see some hardware help for microkernels.

You know it is interesting that Apple put IOKit in ring zero with Mach.
It certainly gives you more speed, but at the same time it eliminates
much of the need to have Mach.

I think IOKit is one of the better parts of the OS, but almost no one
talks about that.
