Radion Shack used to sell some $10 electret microphones that had
remarkable performance.  Fool that I was, I let the pair I had get away
somewhere, and when I went to try and get another recently, discovered
that they discontinued them almost ten years ago in favor of a little
plastic POS that they sell for about fifty cents less that's utterly
worthless.

If I'm REALLY lucky, they're still in a box somewhere.
