Hmm.  Perhaps a better method would be to write an audio-analysis tool
that emulates the various cassette I/O mechanisms of the day to decode
the signal, and SAVES the decoded signal in some well-documented format
(like, say, an XML file consisting of description tags and a block of
hexcode for the data), optionally re-encoding it with zero noise to a
lossess compression format.

That would truly archive all that legacy data.
