No, nothing special, an old Redhat (7.2 I think). Actually only the
kernel counts here. Kernel 2.4 is mostly OK as far as you don't try to
use gigs of ram on a 32-bit platform.

2.6 is better, also scheduler-wise. Load average in the range of 10000
was demonstrated on 2.6. The workload was creating and destroying
threads as fast as the kernel could, using the new native posix threads
library (NPTL) - like 100000 theads in 2 sec.
